Frey’s Twins

Fire & Blood

Frey’s Twins is the seat of House Frey and the home associated with Lady Sabitha Frey, a political and military presence in the Riverlands during and after the Dance of the Dragons. Its place in the account is traced less through descriptions of the stronghold itself than through the people and alliances connected to it: Sabitha gathered forces for the queen’s cause, stood among the young leaders who helped shape the postwar settlement, and was later expected to host the king on a proposed tour of the realm.

Seat of House Frey

Frey’s Twins is identified through the titles of its lords and lady. Sabitha is called Lady of the Twins; she was the widow of Lord Forrest Frey and mother of his heir. The account also places her kin from House Vypren alongside her in the Riverlands’ military mobilization, linking the seat to a network of family and regional support rather than presenting it as an isolated stronghold.

Sabitha Frey and the Riverlands’ cause

When Ser Addam Velaryon assembled an army to attack Tumbleton, Sabitha joined the forces gathering behind him. She came with her father and brothers of House Vypren, while other Riverlands lords raised depleted levies. The army’s strength depended on these local supporters and their ability to rally after earlier losses; Sabitha’s participation placed the Lady of the Twins within that coalition.

Her role endured beyond that campaign. As opposition to Aegon II gathered again, Sabitha joined the Riverlands leaders rallying around Elmo Tully, alongside Benjicot Blackwood and other lords. Later, outside the Gate of the Gods, she was among the supporters of the young leaders remembered collectively as the Lads. The account presents her not simply as the widow of a lord but as an active ally in the region’s shifting military and political alignments.

A proposed royal visit

Frey’s Twins was included in plans for King Aegon III and Queen Daenaera’s year-long royal progress, intended to mark the king’s approaching sixteenth nameday and show him the lands he ruled. The proposed route would take the royal party north and then south through the Riverlands; Sabitha was expected to host the king and queen at the Twins. This itinerary remained a plan in the account, not a recorded visit. Its inclusion nevertheless places the seat within a wider effort to connect the young monarch with the realm and its leading houses.

Place in the wider account

The references to Frey’s Twins gather around House Frey’s political presence rather than the stronghold’s physical form. Sabitha’s appearances connect it to recruitment for the queen’s cause, renewed Riverlands resistance, the postwar rise of the Lads, and the intended royal progress. In this way, the seat serves as a marker of regional allegiance and hospitality: a home base for a prominent Riverlands lady and a planned stop on the king’s journey through his realm.
